Bulldog One Chapter of Groove Phi Groove, Social Fellowship, Inc. was the first ever fraternal pledge organization to be established on the campus of Bowie State University (formerlyBowie State College),. At the time of its founding, Bowie was 103 years old. Founded in1865, Bowie was, and remains the oldest HBCU in Maryland. However, in 1967, it had not yet adopted the tradition of allowing young men and women attending college the experience of joining a fraternity or sorority as had been the case across the nation at a number of other colleges and universities. In
1967, five years after the Groove organization’s founding in 1962, three young men, Nathaniel “Sonny” Alston, John Tucker, and Ronald Quarles sought and were granted permission to establish the first line of any pledge organization ever on the campus of BowieState College. That organization was Groove Phi Groove, Social Fellowship, Inc.The charter line in 1967 consisted of 6 young men: Samuel Williams, Omar Jones, JoshuaTaylor, Edward Fields, Charles Bell, and Oscar Kidd. The name of that line was “the BloodySix”.
There were subsequent Groove pledge lines after that first one, and other pledge and GreekLetter organizations followed. However, Groove Phi Groove, Social Fellowship, Inc. was the very first, and remains a prominent presence on the Bowie State campus more than 58 years later.

The Prince George's County Graduate Chapter of Groove Phi Groove, Inc. began with a group of Fellowmen mostly from Bowie State University, having informal meetings in 2003 at the CLT building on campus. This group consisted of Fl. Frank Ausby, Fl. Bernard Douglas, Fl. Marvin Gibson, Dr. Michael Hughes, Fl. Gregory Jones, Fl. Larry Williams (Deceased), and Fl. Dr. John Word. After the group was formed, Omar Jones and Alvin Pindel with a host of other Fellowmen joined.
The main focus of these meetings was to start a formal graduate chapter of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc. to represent and reestablish the Bowie State University undergraduate chapter (Bulldog Chapter) after 20 years of inactivity. The fellowmen also focused on rebuilding the plot due to campus new construction, support undergraduate growth, and reunite all the Fellowmen who initiated at Bowie State University and Fellowmen in the surrounding area.
Fl. Gregory A. Jones, a member of Groove Phi Groove SFI, Inc. since 1976, took the lead to formalize Prince George's County Graduate Chapter (PG Grad Chapter) of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc. After the establishment of PG Grad, the administration approved the re-establishment of the Bulldog Chapter of Groove Phi Groove on campus.
The Prince George's Graduate Chapter was established primarily with the following goals in mind:
1. ) Establish authorized membership as a graduate chapter with Groove Phi Groove SFI and Bowie University
2. ) Reactivate the Bowie State undergrad chapter and ensure maintenance of the chapter and consistency of intake
3. ) Establish a new area on which to build a plot on the campus of Bowie State University
4. ) Establish a mentoring relationship with Bulldog | Chapter
5. ) Establish projects to enhance the Fellowship's relationship with the university and the community.
The proposed charter group needed 5 financial members, a charter, and submission to the National Conclave for approval.
